I was attacked by a poltergeist

It wasn’t exactly like the horror films would have you believe.

The attack took place in a supermarket. I sent the company’s customer services the following email:

A very strange thing happened in Tunbridge Wells M&S on Saturday and I was wondering if you had any explanation or if anything similar has happened.

Essentially, I was walking towards the cheese shelving and a big wedge of cheddar (although not sure on the detail) launched itself down the aisle. It travelled maybe three or four metres, so didn’t just fall from the shelf. It was as if it were thrown.

A fellow customer was walking near me and saw it. He caught my eye and said ‘that was strange’ and picked up the cheese and returned it.

I’m aware this is unusual contact and sounds like a joke — but it genuinely happened and I can’t work out how! I’m sure your CCTV would confirm it. If you have any idea how/why or if anything similar has happened, please do let me know!

Customer services sent the following reply:

Hi Tom

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch with us.

After reading through your email, I am so sorry you had to experience such a scare. I would be frightened too if a big wedge of cheese launched itself down the aisle from me. I’m not sure the store would ever see me again within 10 meters of it. I’m also glad you found another person to witness this incident with you.

At the minute, I can confirm that we have not received any reports of any incidents similar to this. However, we will be monitoring the situation within the store. I can’t promise we would let you know as we do not have a set policy on handling such situations but we would get back in touch should we require further assistance on your experience.

Please believe me when I say, we, at M&S do not consider this as a joke, therefore your feedback has been logged under 2108784 so that we have this on record.

Again, I am sorry you and another customer had to endure such an unnatural occurrence within our Tunbridge Wells store and we hope to welcome you back under better circumstances.

Tom, I want to thank you for your honesty, bravery and patience by bringing this to our attention as we are always looking for ways to better our service and your feedback has been an invaluable part of this process.

Should you ever need help in the future, then please don’t hesitate to get back in touch, as I or one of my colleagues would be happy to help you in whichever way we can.

Please keep well and enjoy the rest of your day.

Kind regards,

XXX

I’m not entirely sure they believed me.
